Tips to Quit Smoking Easily

Smoking can be a very addictive habit. Often times than not, you wake up with the feeling that you must burn down a cigarette before starting your day. Depending on how deep you are into the habit, there are ways that can help you get out of it. These ways are not sudden and will therefore not shock your system. However, they do work and with time, effort and patience, you too can quit smoking with these crucial tips.

1. Taper Down

The first thing you need to look at is the number of cigarettes you smoke each day. Take this number and work towards halving it over the course of a week or two. As you do this slowly and gradually, you will find the urge to smoke fading away. Soon, you will be able to smoke a quarter the number you used to smoke before and this is definitely a step towards the right direction. By reducing the number of joints or cigarettes you smoke, you will have overcome the first hurdle which is also the most difficult.

2. Find Replacement Habits

Smoking is a habit like any other. You pick it up and as you maintain it over time, it grows into you. As a habit, smoking can be replaced by other healthy and fun activities such as jogging or going for a walk. In terms of health, this will be a huge boost and will even strengthen you to quit smoking in a short time. Other replacement habits are hobbies. You can pick a hobby that has always been of interest to you and make it an excuse to drop the smoking habit. As you replace smoking with other activities, you will find that the habit gradually fades away into the background leaving you free to pursue other things and stop smoking.

3. Get Counselling

If you find it hard to quit smoking on your own, then you are at the right place. Smoking is a habit that is difficult to stop by yourself especially when you have had it going for a long time. Getting the help of a professional counsellor can give you a reprieve from the stress and acts as a therapy as you slowly get off the habit. A counsellor can appoint times when you should go visiting and whether you are still smoking or not, a visit to a professional will not hurt. Just be patient and give all the information you can to the counsellor as this can help accelerate your progress and get you off the smoking habit in no time.

Last but not least, find it in yourself the strength and courage to drop the habit. If you are able to do it all by yourself, you can rest assured that the habit will have been buried very far. Once you have gotten off the habit, do not feel tempted to go back to it. Instead, find better things to do and also help others on their journey away from addiction. If you still find hurdles on your way, do not be worried. It might be a long road but it will always come to an end given the effort.
